Focusing on images that reflect living in rural Victoria, the Loddon project explores nature and farming themes with reference to the current 7 years of drought. The Zaishus were a collaboration between Loddon Shire, East Loddon P-12 College Year 10 Students, Inglewood and Districts Health Service and was an Community Building Arts Initiative made possible through youth FreeZa funding. Painting, collage, stencils, tattoo designs, burning, silkscreen and tyre prints are a few of the techniques used by the Dutch on their Zaishu panels. Hosted in a raw industrial warehouse, Jennette Snape brought together a crew of Amsterdam’s cutting edge designers and artists creating a limited edition of 20 Zaishus to be exhibited and sold at Wilhelmina Winkel Gallery, Amsterdam on December 7th. Just in time for Melbourne Cup, Zaishu has teamed up with Angus McDonald, one of Australia’s most collectible and burgeoning talents to create a limited edition print of 100 Zaishus. Angus has held more than 20 solo exhibitions across Australia, Japan and in London. His still-life paintings and large chalk drawings of bulls, cows and horses are contemporary in nature but clearly influenced by a respect and affection for classical realism.

New Prints
The Australian environment is both beautiful and brutal, annual bushfires engulf the land indiscriminately. Apart from the destructive force of fires they are also vital to the regeneration of various plant species. The artwork for this Zaishu takes the inspiration from our bushlands featuring eucalypt leaves, Waratah seed pods and a landscape from the Alpine National Park two years after fires savaged the area.

Zaishu goes to Fiji for our latest art project featuring traditional Masi tribal stenciling techniques. Special thanks to Kaz Brecher from LA for organising and managing the project. Kaz is the cheif from TribeWanted, they are building a sustainable tourist resort to support the local Fijian community. They will screen print and paint our 'Baby' Zaishu's which will then be available from ReForm School in LA. This is a not for profit project supporting the Mali District School in Fiji.

The Swedish Ski resort at Tandådalens uses Florence Broadhurst printed Zaishus in its cafe. The architects chose Zaishus because of their durability and unique shape. The Zaishus were delivered within 1 week flat pack by international courier and assembled by staff.

Samparc Childrens Village, Lonavala, India
This image of 100 Zaishus is part of our non profit project in India. All panels were hand painted in India by Warli tribal artists, Rangoli artists, school children and traditional sign writers. Proceeds supported the artists and children from Samparc Children's Village. A documentary made by Mike Crowhurst about this project was shown at the Powerhouse Design Museum.

Zaishu and our friends at Third Drawer Down, Dumbo Feather magazine and Bluesquare furniture sponsored Rainforest Rescue to plant 1000 trees in the Byron Bay sand dunes. Our aim is to restore endangered coastal rainforest for birds, wildlife and the public to visit and enjoy. It also helps in a small way to offset the carbon used in Zaishu production and transportation.
